A non-resident worker (NRW) from the Philippines has been arrested for injuring a compatriot when he was drunk, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Lei Chan Hong said at a regular press conference yesterday.

The suspect surnamed Liwayan is in his thirties. He works as a janitor.

In the early morning of October 1, PSP officers received a report from a Filipino non-resident worker in his fifties that the previous night he had a brief verbal argument with an unknown individual on Estrada Governador Albano de Oliveira in Taipa, which resulted in him being struck in the jaw. Lei did not provide further details regarding the nature of the argument.

The police made use of their citywide CCTV surveillance system to identify the suspect. Last Wednesday, the police summoned Liwayan to a police station for questioning, during which he admitted to hitting the lower jaw of the victim while he was drunk.

Liwayan has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a charge of causing bodily harm, according to Lei.
