The Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) said in a statement yesterday that its MPU-Bell Centre of English will hold the Creative English Language Teaching (ELT) Forum themed on generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) on Friday, welcoming participants from Macau’s education sector.

The statement noted that the forum, which is held in support of the government’s “1+4” appropriate economic diversification strategy and coincides with the centre’s 20th anniversary, aims to provide educators from schools and other institutions with the opportunity to discuss experiences and insights on “how to apply creativity in language learning”.

Moreover, the potential of generative artificial intelligence (genAI) in the education field and how to deal with new teaching challenges to enable those in the profession to further understand AI’s role in language teaching, and prepare for emerging trends in English teaching, will be discussed, according to the statement.

The statement added that two linguists have been invited as speakers: Hong Kong Polytechnic University’s (PolyU) Department of English and Communication Prof. Kathleen Ahrens, and Guangdong University of Foreign Studies Dean of the School of Interpreting and Translation Prof. Lan Hongjun

Three MPU-Bell trainers will also discuss integrating technology and GenAI in effective teaching and learning, the statement said.
