Hotel guests in Oct rise 151.8 pct to 1.2 million

 Macau’s 137 hotels recorded 1.2 million guests in October, a year-on-year growth of 151.8 percent, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced yesterday.

Guests from the Chinese mainland (904,000), Hong Kong (187,000) and Taiwan (28,000) rose by 131.2 percent, 787.0 percent and 503.1 percent respectively. Guests from the three Chinese regions accounted for 89.7 percent of the total number of guests last month.

The number of local staycationers dropped by 34.0 percent to 46,000 in October.

In the first 10 months of the year, the number of guests grew by 159.9 percent year on year to 11.04 million. Guests’ average length of stay dropped by 0.1 night to 1.7 nights.

The number of available guestrooms rose by 24.8 percent year on year to 46,000 at the end of last month. The number of hotels was up by 19 year on year.

Hotels’ average occupancy rate increased by 41.1 percentage points year on year to 82.9 percent last month.
