Electronic engineering scholar Prof. Wong Ching-ping (aka C.P. Wong) will give a lecture entitled “Polymers and Nano Materials for Electronic Application” on Saturday for the University of Macau’s (UM) “Doctor honoris causa Lecture”, the public university said in a statement yesterday.

Honoris causa is Latin meaning “for the sake of the honour”.

The statement noted that during the on-campus English lecture, Prof. Wong, a Regents Professor and the Charles Smithgall Institute Endowed Chair in the School of Materials Science and Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, will discuss the “applications of polymers* in electronic devices, present the synthesis methods and properties of nano-functional materials and their potential applications in electronics”.

Prof. Wong, according to the statement, is known as the “Father of Modern Semiconductor Packaging for his groundbreaking innovations”, having made contributions to academia, industry, and society. The statement said that he also “fundamentally transformed the packaging technology for semiconductors, pioneering the use of new materials ranging from polymers to nanomaterials, and achieving remarkable cost efficiency”.

The statement added that Prof. Wong, who grew up in Hong Kong, also holds positions in multiple academic institutions, such as serving as a member of the US National Academy of Engineering.

The lecture will be held at UM’s Auditorium of Research Building (N21-G013) at 10 a.m. Registration can be done on https://go.um.edu.mo/rv0m6o8p, while enquiries can be made by calling 8822 8763 or emailing alicewmlam@um.edu.mo
