Over 27,000 hygiene kits were assembled by around 200 Sands China staff and Rotary Club of Macau members at The Venetian Macao on Friday for the international social enterprise Clean the World, with each kit then distributed to families in need in the Philippines by global charity Children International.

Speaking with reporters after the event kicked-off, Clean the World Asia’s Managing Director Gyneth Tan said each hygiene kit contains a bar of soap, which are repurposed from those left behind by hotel guests. They are sterilised and recycled through the social enterprise’s remanufacturing process, with Tan noting that they are turned into new bars of soap which are safe for the face and body.

Each kit also comes with a toothbrush set, face towels, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, Tan added, as well as a message card from the Sands Cares team, noting that this is very meaningful as it connects those assembling the kits with the beneficiaries.

Tan underlined that the hygiene kits have been given to Children International in the Philippines for the last 10 years because it is a country that gets regularly hit by typhoons and has the most every year. “This is very important because it is given out to children and families in the Philippines who are in need and also whenever there is humanitarian aid for emergency situations, these kits are also going out to the survivors of the typhoon”, she noted.

Meanwhile, Sands China President Wilfred Wong Ying-wai said in a speech during the Friday event: “We are ever grateful to the volunteers from among our team members and community partners for helping make an event like this a success, and we remain steadfast in our commitment to contribute to a healthier, more sustainable world for all”.

Sands China and its community partners have assembled nearly 356,000 kits since 2014, according to a statement provided by the integrated resort (IR) operator during the event, adding that the annval hygiene kit assembly is an initiative of parent company Las Vegas Sands Corp. (LVS).
