The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) has said that the government plans to construct a building to be used as an exhibition facility about the Historic Centre of Macau, which was inscribed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005, in an area near the UNESCO World Heritage-protected Ruins of St Paul’s.
The new facility is planned to be constructed on the archaeological site on Rua de D. Belchior Carneiro, and its adjacent areas.
IC President Leong Wai Man made the remarks during a press conference on Tuesday after chairing a closed-door regular meeting of the government-appointed Cultural Heritage Council at the Macau Cultural Centre (CCM) in Nape.
Pointing out that it has been over 18 years since the Historic Centre of Macau was listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site, Leong said that the new facility aims to promote the protection of Macau’s UNESCO World Heritage Site.
During the meeting, IC officials briefed councillors about the government’s design of its plan to build the facility showcasing the Historic Centre of Macau.
The exhibition facility will have a gross floor area of around 7,600 square metres, Leong said.
Leong did not put a price tag on the project, neither did she elaborate on its construction schedule.
