A total of 60 photographs taken by renowned contemporary German photographer Candida Höfer are being showcased in an exhibition on the first and second floors of the Macau Museum of Art (MAM) in Nape.
Entitled “Candida Höfer: Epic Gaze”, the exhibition, her first in Macau , was inaugurated earlier this month and comprises work spanning over the last 20 years, according to a statement from the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC).
Höfer, 79, is among one of the most conceptual photographers of the 20th century, the statement noted, and is known for her “signature eye-level orthogonal views of architectural interiors of public spaces that are devoid of human presence”.
Her exhibition is divided into six sections: “Passages”, “Theatres”, “Museums”, “Libraries”, “Worldview”, and “Unseen Works”
The photographs constitute a testimony to the history of buildings, “explores the evolution of architectural projects, their ability to generate spatial content, as well as the ways in which these projects continue to highlight cultural qualities through space models in a specific era”, the statement said.
Guided tours conducted in Cantonese will be available at 3 p.m. on weekends and public holidays.
The exhibition is on until March 3. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., including public holidays, and is closed on Mondays. Admission is free. More details can be found on www.MAM.gov.mo and the “Macao Museum of Art” Facebook page.
