Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) formally inaugurated its Phase 3 in Cotai yesterday afternoon during the large-scale project’s Grand Opening ceremony at the Galaxy International Convention Centre (GICC), one of the facilities of the phase.
The integrated resort (IR) operator’s Phase 3, which puts special emphasis on non-gaming elements, features two MICE and entertainment venues: the GICC, which provides 40,000 square metres of MICE space, and the 16,000 seat Galaxy Arena.
Phase 3 also comprises two international hotel brands, Andaz Macau and Raffles at Galaxy Macau, that together provide over 1,100 rooms.
In his speech in Cantonese yesterday, GEG founder and Chairman Lui Che Woo said: “GEG’s Phase 3 projects epitomise ‘The Future. Diversified. Celebrating Macau’s New Cultural & Entertainment Landmark.’ These projects also align with the Macau SAR government’s [2024] policy address, which calls on us to foster the quality development of exhibitions and conventions combined with commerce and Macau’s establishment as a ‘City of Performing Arts’ and a ‘City of Sport.’ Phase 3 is also a testament to the successful implementation of the MICEE [meetings, incentives, conventions, exhibitions, and entertainment] model which I proposed years ago”.
An English-language statement released by the integrated resort operator during yesterday afternoon’s event included extracts of his speech.
Lui added: “With this ‘MICE + Entertainment’ concept evolving into new establishments and opportunities contributing to the success of GEG and Macau, we hope to support the progress of the integrated tourism and leisure industry and share the fruitful achievements of Macau’s economic diversification with all sectors of the community.”
Yesterday’s officiating guests included Edmund Ho Hau Wah, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC); Secretary for Economy and Finance as well as representative of Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng, Lei Wai Nong; and Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Elsie Ao Ieong U.
The Macao Orchestra, under the baton of Music Director and Principal Conductor Lio Kuok Man, along with renowned mainland Chinese soprano He Hui performed at the ceremony.
Moreover, GEG will advance with its Phase 4 plans to construct a new integrated resort with non-gaming amenities and a 4,000-seat international music and performing-arts theatre, among others, the company said in a statement yesterday.
