Asian Games wushu gold medallist Li Yi awarded Macau's Silver Lotus decoration

Li Yi, who won the gold medal in September's Asian Games in the "changquan" martial arts (wushu) category has been awarded Macau's Silver Lotus decoration of honour for "outstanding contribution" to the special administrative region's sports development.

Li won the gold medal in the Asian Games in Hangzhou in September. She is Macau's first Asian Games female gold medallist.

According to Wikipedia, "changquan" ("long fist") emphasises fully extended kicks and striking "kung fu" techniques.

The local government announced its 2023 honours list in a statement yesterday. The Silver Lotus is Macau's third highest decoration, after the Grand Lotus and Golden Lotus. The Silver Lotus was the highest decoration awarded this year. This year's honours list comprises 28 individuals, organisations and enterprises.

The annual honours list comprises decorations, medals and certificates of merit in recognition of the recipients' achievements, outstanding contributions and distinguished services, respectively.

The Macau Basic Law Promotion Association, the State Key Laboratory of Lunar and Planetary Sciences at the Macau University of Science (MUST) and the Interdepartmental Working Group of the government's Macao One Account were each awarded the Medal of Merit – Professions.

Cheong Kun Pain Reliever Oil Chinese Medicine Factory (Macau) Ltd., Hovione PharmaScience Ltd. and Macau Cement Manufacturing Co., Ltd. were each awarded the Medal of Merit – Industry and Commerce.

Pastelaria e Prendas Chui Heong Lda. (a pastry and souvenir shop) was awarded the Medal of Merit – Tourism

The Engineering Research Centre of Applied Technology on Machine Translation and Artificial Intelligence of the Macao Polytechnic University (MPU), University of Macau (UM) Rector Song Yonghua and D. Jose da Costa Nunes Kindergarten Director Felizbina Gomes were each awarded the Medal of Merit – Education.

Painter Lao Fu Ip was awarded the Medal of Merit – Culture.

The Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau was awarded the Medal of Merit – Philanthropy

The Men's Karate Kata Team that competed in the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, karate practitioner Kuok Kin Hang and wushu (sanda) practitioner Cai Feilong were each awarded the Medal of Merit – Sports

The Special Investigation Group (Group L) under the Anti-Corruption Bureau of the Commission Against Corruption (CCAC) was awarded the Medal for Bravery.

Other awardees include the Pou Tai Integrated Service Centre for the Elderly; Pui Ching Middle School’s “A colour blindness analyser based on the principle of colour mixing” team; and Hou Kong School’s “An ointment heals quickly – the secret hidden between the soil and the flowers” team.

The honours will be bestowed on the recipients at a ceremony scheduled for January 19. Customarily, Macau's chief executive officiates at the ceremony.
