A local male driver who reeked of alcohol crashed into railings on Avenida do Dr Francisco Vieira Machado in the wee hours of Christmas Eve, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheong Heon Fan said during a regular press conference yesterday, adding that the alcohol concentration of the suspect, who is in his thirties, was 2.51 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood.

The suspect, who told the police that he works as a PR staff, was arrested later that day for drunk driving, according to Cheong.

The suspect, surnamed Chao, was found to have been drunk driving after the traffic accident was reported to the police at 4 a.m. on Sunday, said Cheong, who quoted PSP officers who arrived at the scene as saying that they noticed that the front end of Chao’s car and the railings on the pavement were damaged.

Under questioning, Chao admitted that he crashed into the railings after drinking at a bar in Nape earlier that day, according to Cheong, who noted that Chao has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a drunk-driving charge.
