An endangered camphor tree (Camphora officinarum) was found to still have signs of disease and pest infestation after months of treatment, and all the crown leaves of the tree are withered which could endanger pedestrians walking under the tree, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement on Friday.

According to the statement, the tree is located on Avenida do Conselheiro Ferreira de Almeida outside Lou Lim Ioc Garden.

The statement noted that the tree has been on the government’s official old tree protection list since September 2016.

The statement said that although healing measures such as using medication, pruning to control the height and specialist treatment have been taken in recent months, the tree’s condition has not improved.

The bureau pledged that it will continue to monitor the tree’s condition, adding that a notice urging the public to pay attention to the situation has been affixed next to the tree.

The bureau urged landscapers, landowners and the general public to regularly check and follow up on the condition of trees, while also taking preventive measures to reduce the risk of accidents.

The bureau promised in the statement that it will continue to monitor old trees’ situations throughout the city.

Anyone who finds abnormalities in a tree ought to contact the bureau by calling 2833 7676 or via “IAM Connect”, according to the statement.
