The Macau Museum of Art (MAM) is showcasing a total of 150 pieces in an exhibition entitled “Centennial Retrospective of Lok Cheong’s Art”.
Lok Cheong was a famous local painter who lived from 1923 to 2006, according to a recent statement provided by the museum, adding that he was a keen observer who had life experiences that provided him with a raft of subject matter. He was the president of the Macau Artist Society for a long time, the statement noted, and excelled in mastering and blending Chinese and Western painting techniques.
The free-admission exhibition, which is on until April 7, features five different sections: “Love for the Motherland”, “Capturing the Character of Macao”, “Portraits”, “Sketching from the Heart”, and “Works by Fellow Artists”. The statement noted that a total of 100 paintings by Lok are showcased, along with some of his sketches and his friends’ works exhibited for the first time.
The statement said that the works on display comprise oil paintings, watercolours, Chinese paintings, drawings, manuscripts and documents. The works altogether aim to shed light on Lok’s life, artistic career, and legacy.
The museum is open daily, including weekends and public holidays, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the last entry being 6:30 p.m. It is closed on Mondays. More information can be found on www.mam.gov.mo, or by calling 8791 9814 or sending an email to MAM@icm.gov.mo
