The Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) launched a three-day symposium entitled “Macau International Forum on Space and Planetary Sciences” on its campus in Taipa yesterday, with MUST President Joseph Lee Hun Wei saying that the private tertiary education institution will continue to strengthen cooperation with the mainland and international research institutes to support the nation’s space exploration programme research work.
Lee made the remarks on the sidelines of the forum, which was attended by Macau Science and Technology Promotion Association (MAPST) President José Chui Sai Peng, Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT) committee member Paulo Cheang Kun Wai and more than 200 space and planetary science scholars from around the world.
Lee said that Macau has made achievements in the study of space exploration over the past 20 years, adding that he hopes to see more regional and international events in the future to bring in talented people, adding that MUST encourages interdisciplinary research and has started related research work at the on-campus State Key Laboratory of Lunar and Planetary Science to complement the country’s space exploration strategy.
Chui said in a speech during the forum he believes that the forum, which ends tomorrow, can further promote the development of space and planetary science in Macau, improve the public’s awareness and understanding of space and planetary science, and promote the development of space and planetary science applications in Macau.
