The Judiciary Police (PJ) urged the public to be wary of a bogus New Yaohan Facebook page, which falsely claims that it is conducting promotional activities to sell designer handbags, cosmetics and accessories at low prices, according to a PJ statement on Friday.
New Yaohan (Chinese: 新八佰伴) is a department store in Nam Van and Grand Lisboa Palace (GLP).
According to the statement, the fake page also actively pushes some “advertisement” posts to Facebook users, leading the public to click on the fake link in the advertisement to place orders.
As the goods sold on the fake page are much lower priced than the market price, the authenticity of the goods ordered by the public is doubtful, and personal data may risk being extracted for illegal purposes, the statement said.
After the PJ consulted with the management of the real New Yaohan, the page was found to be counterfeit, pointing out that the department store operator is not doing any promotional activities currently.
The Judiciary Police underlined that the public should contact its Anti-scam hotline on 8800 7777 or the crime report hotline on 993 when they find what they suspect is a fake website or a social media page, or are the victims of online fraud, regardless of whether they have suffered any financial losses.
