The Health Bureau (SSM) announced in a statement yesterday that from tomorrow a number of lifts in its new Public Health Building will open, making it more convenient for members of the public to visit the adjacent public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre.

The government’s newly-completed Public Health Building, which is located next to the public hospital, was inaugurated in October last year.

The Public Health Building, informally known as communicable disease building, is the first-phase extension of the adjacent public hospital.

The new building aims to raise the city’s isolation-facility capacity.

When Macau is not affected by an epidemic, isolation wards in the Public Health Building will be used as general hospital wards.

According to yesterday’s statement, the lifts that will open tomorrow will enable residents to travel from the Public Health Building’s ground floor, which is located opposite the S. Francisco Garden, to its fifth floor, from where they can walk to the public hospital without having to walk uphill.

The lifts will be open 24/7.
