Galaxy Macau hosted its “Auspicious 8” Poon Choi Feast on Tuesday at Oasis in Cotai, with the event celebrating poon choi (“big bowl feast”) variations created by eight different chefs from eight of its award-winning restaurants, along with their eight signature Lunar New Year dishes for the coming Year of the Dragon, according to a Wednesday statement from the integrated resort operator.
Poon Choi is a traditional Cantonese dish originating from historic walled villages, the statement noted, and is generally reserved for special occasions and celebrations, symbolising unity and togetherness.
The statement said that participants sampled “Tang-style Poon Choi”, which was inherited by Walled Village descendant and Culture Expert William Tang (鄧達智), who offered tips and insights for making it.
The statement added that Tang also provided inspiration for the eight chefs to enhance their own poon choi interpretations, each reflecting their restaurant’s culinary style, namely: Shunde style at Pang’s Kitchen, Chiu Chow style at Pak Loh Chiu Chow, Fujian style at Putien, Tanka style at Galaxy Macau Tam Chai Yu Chun, Dongbei style at Bei Shan Lou, Taiwanese style at Lugang Cafe, Cantonese style at StarWorld’s Shang Pin Seafood Hotpot Restaurant and Macau-style at Broadway’s Lei Ka Choi.
The dishes are available until February 18, with more details on https://www.galaxymacau.com/
Attendees were greeted with a flowering tea prepared by Galaxy Macau Tea Ambassador and National Tea Art Competition Champion Iris Yang (楊彩婷), followed by a speech by Galaxy Macau Assistant Senior Vice President of Food and Beverage Ben Man (文志成), along with stories about Poon Choi by Tang and Galaxy Macau Vice President of Chinese Culinary Chef Tam Kwok Sing.
Meanwhile, dining offers at Galaxy Macau also include Re-Union Chinese Banquet Dinner, priced at 8,888 patacas per table (10 pax) on February 8 and 9, and the “Rising Fortune Chinese New Year Buffet”, at the Banyan Tree Ballroom from February 11 to 14. More details are available on the website.
