A local drug addict attacked his domestic helper with a fruit knife after taking methamphetamine (aka ice) at his home in a building on Rua de Nam Keng in Taipa on January 12, causing cuts to her wrists, face and neck, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Lam Keong said at a regular press conference on Friday.

According to Lam, the jobless suspect, aged about 50, is surnamed Chao.

The incident took place at 9 p.m. on January 12 when the victim was bathing Chao’s 10-year-old son, during which, Lam quoted the victim as saying that, Chao suddenly put his hands around her throat from behind, and cut her wrists, face and neck with a fruit knife.

Lam said that taking the opportunity when the suspect returned to his bedroom, the victim fled to a nearby public park with the boy, and called Chao’s wife for help.

Suspecting that her husband was out of control under the influence of drugs, Chao’s wife called the police, Lam added.

PSP officers who arrived at the scene seized two packs of ice weighing 1.29 grams in total and a quantity of drug paraphernalia, as well as a fruit knife with a blade length of 17 centimetres, according to Lam.

Under questioning, Chao admitted to a long-term drug habit, saying that he took drugs the night before the incident. Chao also said that he suddenly lost control of his emotions and then attacked his domestic helper that night, Lam said, adding that the drugs were purchased last year through an “unknown” person.

Chao was sent for a urine drug test, the result of which showed that he tested positive for drugs.

Chao has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing charges of drug abuse, drug trafficking, bodily harm, and possessing prohibited weapons, Lam noted.
