Two local men and nine non-resident workers (NRWs) from the mainland have been arrested for their involvement in fake employment, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Lei Chan Hong said in a regular press conference yesterday.

The local suspects involved in this case are surnamed Shuen and Iun. Shuen, a transportation company manager in his sixties, and Iun, the owner of a logistics company, are the main suspects. Additionally, there are nine non-resident workers, all males aged between 20 and 50, who were employed by Shuen’s company. These workers were registered as school bus assistants and car mechanics.

According to Lei, the Public Security Police (PSP) recently discovered that one of the non-resident workers surnamed Wang was engaged in the installation of wooden furniture. This led to the police intercepting and questioning Wang last month. Despite being supposedly employed as a car mechanic in Shuen’s company, Wang was actually assisting a female furniture company owner named Zhang from the mainland to install furniture in local flats for customers.

In the past two months, Shuen, Iun, and the other non-resident workers were intercepted by the police. Under questioning, Shuen told the police that he hired the non-resident workers to assist Zhang’s business as his company had surplus non-resident worker (NRW) quotas. Each NRW quota earned him 60,000 patacas. Iun acted as an intermediary between Shuen and Zhang. Lei added that Shuen had already received 240,000 patacas from Zhang for this fraudulent employment arrangement.

The 11 suspects have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing document forgery charges, according to Lei, adding that the police were still investigating Zhang’s whereabouts.
