The Pharmaceutical Supervision and Administration Bureau (ISAF) said in a statement on Saturday that Batch No.102206-1 of antiallergic drug “Betamin Tablets 100”, produced by Meyer Pharmaceuticals Ltd. HK., has been recalled from the local market.

The drug is a combination of steroids and antihistamines, and is used to relieve allergic symptoms of nasal sensitivity, sinusitis and conjunctivitis. Its active ingredient content in some batches of the products was found not to meet the pharmacopoeia standards in the drug’s real-time stability test, the statement noted.

As a precautionary measure, the manufacturer of the drug voluntarily recalled a batch of the drug that was still circulating in the local market, the statement said, adding that local pharmacies have been notified by their respective drug importers to recall the product from the market.

The statement stressed that the bureau is paying close attention to the matter, adding that residents who have obtained the medicine from their neighbourhood pharmacies should consult their attending physician or pharmacist for “proper handling of the drug”.

Enquiries can be made by calling 8598 3533 during office hours.
