A non-resident worker (NRW) has been apprehended for stealing a wallet he had found in the street, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Lei Chan Hong said at a press conference yesterday.
The suspect surnamed Arellano, who is in his forties, is a security guard. Lei did not provide any information regarding the suspect’s nationality.
According to Lei, a resident reported to the police last Thursday that he had lost his wallet but couldn’t recall the exact time and location. Subsequently, police officers discovered that the victim’s Macau Pass had been used at a convenience store. The officers identified Arellano as the individual who had picked up the wallet, leading to his arrest in the Largo de São Domingos area.
Under questioning, Arellano admitted to the crime and claimed that he had spent all the money in the wallet. The police subsequently recovered the wallet at his home.
Lei did not disclose the amount stolen from the wallet.
Arellano has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft-by-finding charge, Lei said.
