Wynn Resorts and the private Kiang Wu Hospital have joined hands to relaunch their Critical Illness Assistance Scheme, providing financial assistance to critically ill patients aged between 13 and 65 whose families face financial difficulties and are not covered by the government’s medical subsidy programme or insurance.

A press conference about the scheme was held yesterday at the hospital, which noted that since its inception in 2021, the scheme has expanded the scope of critical diseases, with the number of subsidised patients more than doubling from 17 in the first year to 36 in the second year, with the total payout of the subsidy having risen to more than four million patacas, double that in the first year. A total of 67 percent of the patients were discharged after recovery.

Wynn Resorts (Macau) President and Executive Director Linda Chen Chih-ling said in a speech that the annual scheme aims to identify and treat critically ill patients at an early stage, providing them with timely and efficient individualised treatment programmes, and helping them and their families overcome difficulties.

Addressing the press conference, Kiang Wu Hospital Charitable Association President Tommy Lau Veng Seng said that the scheme was a “love” project, adding that the hospital provides 24-hour emergency treatment to patients with acute coronary syndrome, massive gastrointestinal haemorrhage, major trauma, stroke and carbon monoxide poisoning, as well as women with high-risk pregnancies, thereby “significantly” improving the efficiency and quality of the emergency treatment of critical patients, while increasing their survival rate.
