Post and Telecommunications Bureau (CTT) Director Derby Lau Wai Meng said yesterday that with the increase in visitors to Macau, she expected the sales of Macau’s stamp products to rise this year as well, adding that her bureau will launch more cultural and creative products related to stamp products.

Lau made the remarks during a press conference at the General Post Office (GPO) in Largo do Senado to announce the launch of this year’s new stamp series, adding that the bureau hoped to increase its philatelic revenue.

Lau acknowledged that nowadays traditional stamps are seldom used for sending letters, and new stamp products issued every year are mainly collected by buyers and also are popular as gifts. Therefore, she said, the Macau Post Office was planning to launch more limited editions of stamp products in the hope of increasing residents and tourists’ buying incentive.

During yesterday’s press conference, Lau announced that the stamp themed “Lunar Year of the Dragon” will be released tomorrow, which is the last of the current round of twelve issues - namely,  the stamps “Lunar Year of the Snake”, “Lunar Year of the Horse”, “Lunar Year of the Goat”, “Lunar Year of the Monkey”, “Lunar Year of the Rooster”, “Lunar Year of the Dog”, “Lunar Year of the Pig”, “ Lunar Year of the Rat”, “Lunar Year of the Ox”, “Lunar Year of the Tiger” and “Lunar Year of the Rabbit” in the stamp series of Chinese Zodiac issued between 2013 and 2023.

2024 is the Lunar Year of the Dragon.

The “Lunar Year of the Dragon” issue amounts to 750,000 stamps, Lau noted.

In addition, the bureau will release the “Supplements for Philatelic Album of Macao 2023” and the thematic pack “Chinese Zodiac [Stamps]” tomorrow, the selling prices of which are 480 patacas and 338 patacas respectively.

All issues will be available for sale at the General Post Office (9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.), the Communications Museum (9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., 2:30  p.m. to 5:30 p.m.), and the Post Office on Rua do Campo (9:00 a.m. to 6:00p.m.), according to the bureau’s statement yesterday.
