A local woman who works as a taxi driver has been apprehended for stealing 300 patacas she found in the street, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Wong Wai Chon said at a press conference yesterday.
The suspect surnamed Leong is in her fifties.
According to Wong, a female resident reported to the police in November last year that she had lost 300 patacas while walking along Rua de Seng Tou in Taipa. Following the report, the police identified Leong as the person who had picked up the money, leading to her arrest.
Under questioning, Leong confessed to stealing the money, saying that her action was motivated by greed and that she had already spent the 300 patacas.
Leong has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft-by-finding charge, Wong said.
