The Monetary Authority of Macau (AMCM) said in a statement yesterday that members of the public should be vigilant about a fraudulent website and social media pages impersonating Macau-based Banco Nacional Ultramarino (BNU) to avoid being cheated and suffering unnecessary losses

The statement said that the local Portuguese bank has issued a notice on its website, noting that the fraudulent website and social media pages are using express loan services as a means of solicitation to attract customers.

AMCM reminded members of the public who have provided personal data, bank account details or passwords through purported banks’ hyperlinks to contact the financial institutions concerned as soon as possible, and also to call the Judiciary Police’s Anti-scam hotline on 8800 7777 or the crime report hotline on 993 when they find what they suspect is a fake website or a bogus social media page, or they are victims of online fraud, regardless of whether they have suffered any financial losses.

BNU reminded members of the public that its only official pages are the following:

>> Website: www.bnu.com.mo

>> Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BNUMacauBank

>> Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bnumacau/

>> LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/.../banco-nacional-ultramarino-s-a

>> WeChat ID: BNU-MACAU
