An early music concert entitled Mediterraneo is slated to take to the stage at the Macau Cultural Centre’s (CCM) Grand Auditorium on March 16, with tickets to be sold from today, according to a statement from the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) yesterday.
The statement noted that Austrian theorboist* and director Christina Pluhar leads her Baroque ensemble L’Arpeggiata in the concert, which will take the audience “back to the roots of old civilisations”, with music sailing between Turkey and Portugal, as well as Greece and Italy.
Fado and medieval Italian tunes are among the music to be featured. The group’s “heterogeneous instrumentality is complemented by the harmonic nuances of traditional southern European songs”, the statement added.
Pluhar founded the early-music group in 2000, with the ensemble combining early-music specialists with vocalists from a region musically known as the “olive frontier”, according to the statement.
The group has sold over 200,000 records and has received “outstanding reviews for its albums and concerts”, the statement noted. The group has also played at London’s Festival of Baroque Music and New York’s Carnegie Hall, among other well-known festivals and concert venues.
Tickets can be bought at the Macao Ticketing Network, with more information available on www.icm.gov.mo and www.ccm.gov.mo , as well as by calling 2840 0555.
