Zhuhai’s Gongbei Customs said in a statement yesterday that its officers have busted a parallel trading case in which a tour guide is suspected of having requested tour group members to smuggle a total of 320 high-grade skin care items to the mainland.

According to the statement, the tour group entered the mainland through the Zhuhai checkpoint of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge on February 6, and when the luggage inspection was conducted, customs officers found that the X-ray images of the shopping bags of a number of group members were highly similar.

The statement did not reveal where the tour group came from, nor any other details about the tour group.

According to the statement, dutiable skin care products such as branded face and eye creams were found and seized from the shopping bags of members of the tour group, including its guide’s, the statement said, adding that some members of the tour group told officers that the guide had told them to “take” the products to the mainland.

Gongbei Customs reminded members of the public to only carry items for their own use in reasonable quantities and in compliance with the relevant regulations, make truthful declarations to the Customs and be wary of requests by others to put the latter’s items into their luggage, and not to breach the law and regulations, just out of greed for small gains.
