A man and a woman, both locals, have been arrested for drunk driving, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheong Heon Fan said during a regular press conference yesterday.

In the first case, the suspect in his sixties is surnamed Tou. He told the police that he’s jobless

According to Cheong, on Friday afternoon, the police received information about a traffic accident involving two motorcycles colliding in Rua da Ribeira do Patane. The rear motorcyclist, Tou, sustained minor injuries and was reeking of alcohol, and a breathalyser test detected his alcohol concentration as 1.65 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood.

Under questioning, Tou admitted to consuming alcohol earlier that day at home.

In the second case, the female suspect surnamed Chan is in her twenties. She told the police that she’s a businesswoman.

According to Cheong, a police officer on patrol in Estrada Governador Nobre de Carvalho noticed a traffic accident where a car had crashed into the kerb in the wee hours of Saturday.

Cheong pointed out that Chan, the driver, showed signs of alcohol consumption, and a breathalyser test detected her alcohol concentration as 1.76 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood.

Under questioning, Chan admitted to drinking in a bar earlier that day.

Chan and Tou have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing drunk-driving charges, Cheong said.
