The Judiciary Police (PJ) said in a statement that a hotel guestroom in Taipa caught fire yesterday, and the hotel reported a loss of nearly 35,000 patacas.
The Fire Services Bureau (CB) received a report of a suspected arson case in a hotel room in Taipa at 3:52 p.m. yesterday, after which it notified the Judiciary Police of the case at 4:40 p.m., the statement said.
The statement said that firefighters found traces of fire in the room, and suspected that several items there had been burnt.
According to the statement, police officers who arrived at the scene identified many visible signs of fire in the room, including a cracked television screen.
The hotel estimated the total property damage to be 35,000 patacas and is planning to sue the perpetrator for compensation.
The statement did not reveal any information about the suspect.
The case has been referred to the PJ Criminal Investigation Department’s Arson Offences Section for follow-up.
