According to the Macau government’s central registration system for drug users, the youth segment only takes up 4.8 percent of the city’s 374 registered drug users in the first half of this year, down by nearly half over the same period last year.

Social Welfare Bureau (IAS) Drug Abuse Prevention Division Head Tang Yuk Wa quoted the figures when briefing reporters after attending a closed-door meeting of the government-appointed Narcotics Control Committee at the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ).

Tang said only 10 percent of young drug users aged below 21 said they had taken drugs in the mainland, which was four times less than last year.
