Lawmaker Leong Sun Iok has submitted a written interpellation suggesting that the government should consider moving open-air arts, cultural, recreation and sporting activities to the Macau East Asian Games Dome, colloquially known as Macau Egg, in Cotai.
Leong, a vice-president of the Macau Federation of Trade Unions, commonly known as Gung Luen, made the suggestion in a written interpellation submitted to the Legislative Assembly last month. The interpellation was released to the media yesterday.
Leong pointed out that a large-scale concert was recently staged at the Macau Olympic Sports Centre Stadium, resulting in problems such as noise from rehearsals and traffic congestion which caused inconvenience to the neighbourhood’s residents.
Leong pointed out that the Macau East Asian Games Dome, which initially had hosted a raft of concerts, is located quite a distance away from residential areas and near an LRT station, but now it is mainly only used for sport training activities.
Leong suggested the government specify the scale and types of performance activities that could be held under the existing conditions of the Macau East Asian Games Dome there, so that it could be used as a large-scale art, cultural and sports centre for Macau.
