The government will build one more footbridge in the Lam Mau Tong neighbourhood, the construction of which is expected to get off the ground in the next quarter, the Public Works Bureau (DSOP) has said.
The footbridge will be located at the junction of Avenida Marginal do Patane (沙梨頭海邊大馬路) and Rua Sul do Patane (沙梨頭南街).
The footbridge will become part of the neighbourhood’s elevated walkway system, where a number of other footbridge projects are already being carried out.
The government launched a public tender at the end of January for the new footbridge’s first-phase construction. Potential bidders were required to submit their quotations by Monday.
A total of 12 construction companies had submitted their bids, which were unsealed by DSOP officials on Tuesday.
According to a DSOP statement on Tuesday, 11 of the 12 bids were accepted, while the bureau conditionally accepted the remaining one. The company will have to submit certain documents that it had failed to include in its bid within a specified period of time for its bid to be finally accepted.
The tender has set a maximum period of 420 working days for the winning bidder to complete the footbridge’s first-phase construction.
The statement announced that the quotations for the project’s first phase proposed by the 12 bidders range from 29 million to 41 million patacas.
The statement also said that the first-phase construction periods proposed by the 12 bidders range from 350 to 385 working days.
The government has been constructing an elevated walkway system in the Lam Mau Tong neighbourhood and its adjacent southern Fai Chi Kei district, comprising footbridges crossing the streets and walkways linking podium areas of different residential estates in the area.
More recently, two footbridge projects on Avenida Marginal do Lam Mau (林茂海邊大馬路) started early last year, namely one connecting the waterfront there and the area’s temporary recreational area and its adjacent La Magnificence (信譽灣畔) residential estate, as well as one connecting three residential estates there – Leisure Garden (信愉花園), The Praia (海擎天), and Van Sion Son Chun (運順新邨).
According to the DSOP website, the ongoing construction of the two footbridges are scheduled to be completed later this year.
According to Tuesday’s statement, the new footbridge’s first phase, the construction of which is expected to start in the next quarter, will link the Van Sion Son Chun residential estate, Trust Leisure Garden (信步閑庭) residential estate, and Asia Industrial Building (亞洲工業大廈).
The footbridge’s second phase will build another section with its access point located outside the nearby Veng Fu Kok (永富閣) residential building. However, the statement said, the government has still not decided when it will launch the second phase because of the “complicated” relocation of underground pipes and cables at the access point.
