The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), Macao Museum, Macao Museum of Art (MAM) and the Macau Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) will hold a raft of cultural and scientific activities this month for residents and visitors to gain more knowledge and enjoy art.

Dragon Dance workshops

The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) said in a statement yesterday that the Macao Museum will launch two parent-child intangible cultural heritage workshops on March 24.

The statement said the workshops aim to provide participants with opportunities to experience a dragon dance under the guidance of professional dragon dance groups, so that participants can improve their knowledge of this intangible cultural heritage.

The traditional dragon dance is a common performance in festivals and celebrations. The dancers use bamboo poles to support the dragon’s head, tail and body, and follow the swing of the dragon’s pearl, also on a bamboo pole, completing the various shapes, movements and routines of the dragon through the changes in the body’s movements and postures, demonstrating its vitality and charm, the statement points out.

The workshops will take place at 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. on March 24, and will be conducted in Cantonese only. Residents can sign up for the workshops at activity.mo.gov.mo/activity-h5/activity-list-web.

Candida Höfer photography exhibition

The Macao Museum of Art will extend its current exhibition displaying Candida Höfer’s photography to May 19, with free admission, according to an IC statement yesterday.

The exhibition, entitled “Candida Höfer: Epic Gaze”, opened on January 1 and has been popular among residents and tourists alike, the statement said. Therefore, the museum will extend the exhibition to allow more members of the public to enjoy the works of the internationally renowned photographer.

The German artist is known for photographing magnificent public spaces devoid of human presence, the statement noted, and her work will be displaced on the museum’s first and second floor from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. except Mondays.

Cantonese guided tours are available at 3 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, and group tours and sign language interpretation services are available for free when booked, the statement said. Members of the public can visit  www.MAM.gov.mo for more information.

World Meteorological Day

To mark the World Meteorological Day on March 23, the Macau Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) will hold a “Weather Fun Day” activity to deepen residents’ understanding of meteorological science, according to an SMG statement yesterday.

The statement said that the “Weather Fun Day” will include several activities, a meteorological science seminar on March 24 and three tours of the city’s meteorological facilities on March 23. Both activities will take place at the Taipa Grande SMG Building.

Each session will have no more than 30 places, the statement said, adding that residents aged 10 or above can sign up at https://www.smg.gov.mo/zh/news-detail/584.
