HONG KONG - Hong Kong police yesterday arrested a couple after the remains of two babies were found in glass bottles by a cleaner at a rented flat in Tuen Mun.
At a briefing in the early hours today, officers from the New Territories North Regional Crime Unit said they were still investigating how the two boys, who both appeared to be less than a year old, died. There were no obvious injuries and an autopsy was to be carried out.
Officers said the bodies were discovered by a cleaner who was sent to the flat in the Mei Hang Building on Kai Man Path in the New Territories' Tuen Mun District by the landlord after the tenants had moved out. The bodies were soaked in liquid and kept in bottles that were placed in the corner of the living room.
Police forensics and scientific officers were sent to the scene.
The force said two people were arrested in a rented flat in Yau Ma Tei on Friday on suspicion of preventing the proper burial of a body. The 24-year-old man is reported to be a warehouse worker while the woman, 22, is said to work in public relations.
They were being held for questioning overnight.
