Integrated resort (IR) operator Sands China and the Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) jointly organised “The Art Talent Development Showcase”, which was recently held at the public university’s Lam Kan Exhibition Gallery, to showcase students’ creative achievements, according to a statement distributed by the IR on behalf of MPU on Wednesday.

The statement said that the showcase, which received an “overwhelming” response, was organised to support Macau’s youth policies, and facilitate its “1+4*” appropriate economic diversification development.

Event attendees included MPU Rector Im Sio Kei, Sands China Executive Vice Chairman Wilfred Wong Ying-wai and MPU Alumni Association Board of Directors Chairman Wong U Kei, who presented certificates to participants of the programme, the statement noted.

Im said that the cooperation arrangement between MPU and Sands China over the past two decades has yielded remarkable achievements in areas such as gaming management, innovative technology and diverse training, according to the statement. Through the university-enterprise cooperation scheme, undergraduate students and youngsters aspiring to develop in art and design are given practical experiences to understand the corporate operation environment and to evolve into multi-skilled talents, the statement added.

Moreover, the statement said that Wilfred Wong Ying-wai congratulated all the students who completed the showcase and hoped that they can use their expertise in the future to introduce Macau’s “unique aspects” to foreign visitors.

The statement added that the company will “continue taking the responsibility for fostering local tourism professionals, the statement noted, and remains dedicated to promoting the integrated development of culture and tourism”.

Meanwhile, Wong U Kei noted that the showcase has helped students put theoretical knowledge and skills acquired in classes into practice through an unconventional learning platform provided by a local enterprise.

The statement added that student representatives Ao Nim Chi and Chen Fangyu noted in a sharing session that the programme enabled them to put their knowledge into practice and enhanced their artistic creativity and expression, as well as benefit from their project managers’ guidance.

*The Macau government’s 1+4 model aims to consolidate and diversify the development of the city’s tourism and leisure industry while putting special emphasis on promoting the development of four nascent industries, namely 1) big health, 2) modern finance, 3) high-tech, and 4) MICE and commerce as well as culture and sport.
