A Filipino has been arrested for stealing a diamond ring worth more than 100,000 patacas that he found in a carpark and kept as his own, a Public Security Police (PSP) spokesperson said at a regular press conference on Friday.
According to the spokesperson, the suspect, a male domestic helper, is surnamed Tancaho.
The Public Security Police received a report from a local woman on February 12 that she had lost her diamond ring worth 133,000 patacas in a carpark in the city centre, the spokesperson noted, adding that the woman had returned to the carpark but could not find her ring before she asked the police for help.
The spokesperson said that the suspect in his thirties was summoned to a PSP station for questioning on Thursday, during which he admitted that he had picked up the ring when he was walking through the carpark. The spokesperson added that Tancaho later handed in the ring to the police.
The suspect has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft-by-finding charge, the spokesperson noted.
