Kenyans win Sands Int’l 10K

Kenyan runners David Bett and Betty Sigei respectively emerged as champions in the men’s and women’s categories of the 2024 Sands China Macao International 10K yesterday, according to a statement from the Sports Bureau (ID).

The statement noted that Bett won the race with a new race record of 29:02, while Sigei also set a new race record at 33:53. The Macao 10K website adds that first place winners win prize money of US$10,000 (80,591 patacas) each.

Meanwhile, racers Wang Kun and Hoi Long respectively won the Macau men’s and women’s athlete categories with a time of 33:05 and 38:12, with the statement adding that both runners broke the event’s Macau record. The prize money for Macau winners is 10,000 patacas.

Record breakers from the male and female category of the 10K get a US$15,000 (120,887 patacas) bonus, while record breaking Macau winners are awarded a 40,000 pataca bonus, according to the Macao 10K website.

Yesterday’s Fun Run and 10K races started at 7 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. respectively at Sai Van Lake Square, finishing at the Olympic Sports Centre Stadium. A TDM report noted that there were around 10,000 participants from 45 countries and regions.

Race results can be checked on www.macao10k.com or the ‘Macao 10K’ mobile app, the statement said. One can also download one’s race certificate at www.marathon-photos.com from March 28.
