A 22-year-old motorcyclist was killed after he crashed into a grass verge on Estrada Marginal da Ilha Verde early yesterday morning, according to separate statements by the Fire Services Bureau (CB) and Public Security Police (PSP).
The Public Security Police urged members of the public to contact the traffic police if they witnessed the accident or can provide any relevant information.
Upon receiving a report from the victim’s friend, firefighters arrived at the scene, yesterday’s CB statement said. They found a motorcycle and a man lying on the grass verge, showing signs of rigour mortis and livor mortis. They later identified him a local male aged 22.
The statement noted that according to a preliminary examination of the body by the Judiciary Police (PJ), the victim suffered a mandibular fracture and suspected fracture of his right hand, the cause of which has yet to be investigated.
The PSP statement said that the Public Security Police were notified of the accident at about 5 a.m., when the officers rushing to the scene found a motorcycle and a male rider with no signs of life in the flowerbed.
The statement noted that after a preliminary search at the scene, the motorcycle rider was believed to have lost control of his bike and crashed into the grass verge when passing the site in the early hours of the morning.
The statement underlined that the police would continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
