A local man and a woman who married in 2011 and divorced in 2016 were taken last week to a police station for questioning for their sham marriage, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Lei Chan Hong said yesterday.
According to Lei, the suspect in his sixties, surnamed Wong, told the police he’s jobless, while the suspect in her thirties, surnamed Lu, is a clerk. Lu was originally from the mainland but obtained a Macau ID in 2016.
Leong said that the Public Security Police recently received a report from a resident who claimed that Wong and Lu had engaged in a sham marriage.
Lei noted that back in 2011, Lu’s original spouse in the mainland, surnamed Liang, suggested Wong take part in a sham marriage for which he would be paid 50,000 yuan. Lok was pregnant at that time.
Lu gave birth to two children in 2011 and 2015, and Wong was registered as their father. Lu and Wong divorced in 2016 after Lu acquired a Macau identification card in 2015.
Last week, the duo were intercepted and taken to a police station. Under questioning, they confessed to the crime.
The duo have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing document forgery and false statement charges, according to Lei.
