The Public Security Police (PSP) have separately arrested two local men for theft, PSP spokeswoman Cheong Im Sim said during a regular press conference yesterday.
According to Cheong, the suspect in the first case surnamed Lou is a 66-year-old chef.
On March 8, a local resident reported to the police that he had left two parcels containing a pair of trousers and a pair of shoes, with a total value of 6,000 patacas, in the management office of his residential building in Areia Preta for a delivery man to collect later. However, the delivery man later informed Cheong that the parcels weren’t there.
After scrutinising the building’s CCTV footage, Cheong said, PSP officers identified the suspect and arrested him at the same building on March 11.
Under questioning, Lou denied the accusation, claiming that he had accidentally mistaken the parcels and was planning to return them. The items were retrieved from his flat.
In the second case, the 39-year-old suspect is surnamed Choi. He told the police that he works as an assistant in a hotel.
According to Cheong, a local resident parked his motorcycle in Areia Preta and placed his laptop in the seat compartment before leaving. However, upon his return, he discovered that the laptop had vanished, thus reporting the case to the police.
After scrutinising nearby CCTV footage, PSP officers identified the suspect and arrested him nearby on March 13.
Choi admitted to stealing the laptop out of greed.
Choi and Lou have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing theft charges.
