The official logo, mascot and slogan for next month’s ITTF [International Table Tennis Federation] Men’s and Women’s World Cup Macao 2024 were unveiled by the Sports Bureau (ID) on Monday, according to a statement by the bureau on the same day.

The ITTF-sanctioned event’s logo features silhouettes of swinging rackets forming the shape of a lotus flower, which the statement noted is “a poignant symbol of Macau’s cultural heritage”. The blooming lotus over the water ripples also pays homage to Macau’s Portuguese-style “azulejo” (ceramic tile) patterns, the statement added.

Moreover, dressed as a table tennis player and embodying Macau’s spirit of promoting table tennis, the aptly named “BOBO” (波仔 – pronounced “bo zai”) is the upcoming event’s mascot, according to the statement.

The mascot, which is a table tennis ball, takes its name from the Cantonese pronunciation of “ball” and “zai” (“little ball”) which the Chinese statement said is a word used as a term of endearment.

“Charming Macao, Blooming Table Tennis”, meanwhile, is the slogan for the upcoming Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG)-presented event, which is slated to take place at Galaxy Arena from April 15-21. Tickets are currently on sale.

More details can be found on www.ittf.com and www.sport.gov.mo, along with the bureau’s social media pages.
