A female civil servant has been arrested for drunk driving, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Cheong Im Sim said during a regular press conference yesterday.

The suspect, surnamed Chan, is a 35-year-old woman. While Cheong said that the suspect is a civil servant, she stressed that the suspect is not a member of the local security forces.

In the wee hours of Sunday, during a routine roadblock on Estrada do Canal dos Patos, PSP officers stopped Chan’s car and found that she was reeking of alcohol. A breathalyser test detected her alcohol concentration as 1.45 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood.

Chan requested another test, and the subsequent result showed a blood alcohol content of 1.32 grams per litre.

Under questioning, she admitted to drinking alcohol earlier that night in the mainland.

Chan has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a drunk-driving charge, Cheong said.
