Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) Director Kong Chi Meng said yesterday that his bureau will lead and support schools in launching environmental education activities by standardising the city’s compulsory school curriculum and publishing teaching materials.
The Macau Science Centre (MSC) was recently awarded the “Green and Low Carbon” Science Education Base Plaque by the Chinese Society for Urban Studies (CSUS). The award ceremony was held on Tuesday at the MSC Exhibition Centre.
Kong said that the centre has supported and promoted the high quality development of science education since the government became its largest shareholder, noting that the centre has become a “National Science Education Base” and a “Scientist Spirit Education Base”.
Kong further pointed out that “green and low-carbon” has become a national policy and a driving force for the country’s high-quality development, and the centre will further fulfil its mission and responsibility as a base for science education, guiding members of the public to understand and respond to major environmental issues such as climate change, energy saving and emission reduction.
CSUS representative Wang Youwei pointed out that the significance of green and low-carbon science education lies in fostering the young generation’s awareness and sense of responsibility towards sustainable development and environmental protection.
The award ceremony was followed by a seminar on “Construction Waste Reduction - Innovative Ideas to Promote Sustainable Urban Development”, where experts and academics discussed their experiences on topics such as the evolution of green building standards, sustainable development of urban buildings and construction waste reduction requirements.
