A pile of cardboard boxes left outside the door of a flat in a building near Rua do Comandante Mata e Oliveira caught fire on Monday night, the Judiciary Police (PJ) said in a statement yesterday.
According to the statement, a resident informed the police about some cardboard boxes burning in the neighbourhood, and firefighters arrived at the scene to extinguish the blaze. Some of the cardboard boxes outside the unit were gutted by the fire, and the walls of the building’s staircase were charred.
During the incident, one resident experienced discomfort and was subsequently taken to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre for outpatient treatment.
The case has been transferred to the arson section of the Judiciary Police, according to the statement, which did not reveal the cause of the fire.
