Bank of China (Macau) and Bank of China (Hong Kong), in conjunction with the Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT), Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), launched yesterday an electronic consumption benefit scheme celebrating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the 25th anniversary of Macau’s return to the motherland.

The scheme, called “Have a good time in the Greater Bay Area – Macau Go! Hong Kong Go!” (“玩轉大灣區-狂賞派 澳門Go!香港Go!”), has attracted the participation of the first batch of more than 1,000 businesses in Hong Kong and Macau, including Macau’s six integrated resorts (IRs) and business operators in the pedestrianised Rua da Felicidade (“Street of Bliss”) area, to jointly offer a wide range of local and cross-border privileges and discounts to BOC customers, covering accommodation, F&B and leisure and entertainment, in the hope of further enhancing the consumption experience of tourists and residents alike, according to a statement by Bank of China (Macau).

Yesterday’s programme-launch ceremony at the Bank of China Building on Avenida Doutor Mário Soares underlined that BOC (Macau) customers can enjoy 10 patacas off when spending 299 patacas with UnionPay in Macau and HK$5 off when spending HK$100 or above with UnionPay at offline merchants in Hong Kong, while BOC (Hong Kong) customers spending 50 patacas or above with their Hong Kong’s BoC Pay in Macau can get five patacas off and enjoy up to 20 times extra bonus points on credit card spending. BOC customers worldwide can also enjoy the same privileges in Hong Kong and Macau through their BOC bank card and UnionPay on their BOC mobile app, the statement noted.

Chan Hio Peng, director and chief executive of Bank of China (Macau), said during the press conference he hoped that the scheme would build a solid bridge for local businesses to attract customers, further stimulating the local economy and promoting the development of Macau’s various sectors and small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The scheme was expected to have a “positive” impact on Macau’s consumer market, helping to develop the city into a world tourism and leisure centre while promoting the appropriate diversification of Macau’s economy and stimulating the community’s economic vitality, DSEDT Director Tai Kin Ip said in a speech.

Yesterday’s press conference was also attended by Secretary for Economy and Finance Lei Wai Nong, MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes and IC President Leong Wai Man, among other local and mainland senior officials, as well as local association and business representatives.
