The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) General Office of the Macau Garrison announced yesterday that its barracks in Taipa will open to the public on May 1-2, with the national flag raising ceremony taking place at 10 a.m. on both days.

This is the 18th time that both barracks have been opened to the public since 2005, promoting communication between the garrison and local residents.

The announcement, which was issued in the form of a written statement, noted that the 1,200 free tickets for each of the two days will be distributed between 9 a.m. and 12 noon this Saturday and Sunday at the PLA barracks in Zape and Taipa.

Local residents can receive up to three tickets by showing their Macau resident ID card, the announcement underlined, which added that each ticket should be filled in with the holder’s valid personal information.

Residents will only be allowed to enter the barracks with their admission tickets and ID cards, the statement noted.

The statement also underlined that all visitors should follow the precautions indicated on their tickets. After security checks, the statement said, they should go to the area designated by the garrison for visits and activities.

A national flag-raising ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. in the morning on May 1 and 2, after which soldiers of the garrison will stage military exercises, including combat and anti-terrorist drills, as well as providing a camp tour, and cultural and art performances. Visitors can also try out military equipment and talk with the soldiers, according to the statement.

Residents are advised to visit the garrison by taking public transport to the “Estrada Baia N. S. Esperança/Quartel” bus stop, the statement said, adding that admission will start at 9 a.m., so visitors should take their seats 10 minutes before the flag-raising ceremony starts on both days, the statement stressed.
