SJM Resorts hosted a family reading workshop on Sunday at the Macao Science Centre (MSC) in Nape ahead and in support of “4.23 Reading in the City”, with the event attended by nearly 60 parents and children, the integrated resort (IR) operator said in a statement on Wednesday.
Workshop attendees came from the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau (UGAMM, commonly known as Kai Fong in Cantonese), Women’s General Association of Macau (commonly known as Fu Luen in Cantonese) and the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (commonly known as Gung Luen in Cantonese), according to the statement.
The statement said that SJM staff guided participants at the “Science Popularisation Picture Book Library,” where they read books on popular science and watched a science-themed drama. Both are part of the SJM-sponsored “Science and Reading Literacy Enhancement Programme” which is supported by the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ), which “aims to promote self-exploration and a reading culture in the local community, expand the public’s scientific knowledge, and nurture the younger generation’s interest in science”, the statement noted.
The families also watched a movie at the Planetarium and played at the MSC Kids World.
Moreover, Macau Science Centre Limited Board of Directors President Mok Ian Ian; the centre’s Director U Hon Sang; SJM Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Daniel Shim; UGAMM Director Ng Sio Lai; Women’s General Association Vice President Cheung Pui Peng; and Macau Federation of Trade Unions Vice Chairman Leong Meng Ian were among the guests at the Sunday event.
