The Melco Resorts & Entertainment presents – “Violin Prodigy Christian Li” Music Concert was held at the Macau Cultural Centre’s (CCM) Grand Auditorium on Saturday in conjunction with the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) and the Macao Orchestra.
Wikipedia notes that 16-year-old Christian Li (李映衡) was born in Melbourne. He is the youngest to win the Junior Category of the Yehudi Menuhin International Competition for Young Violinists when he was just 10 years old.
The statement noted that Saturday’s concert featured Li performing Tchaikovsky’s ‘Violin Concerto in D Major’, while local Music Director and Macao Orchestra Principal Conductor Lio Kuokman directed the orchestra in a rendition of Alexander Glazunov’s ballet music “The Seasons” and US contemporary composer Stacy Garrop’s “Thunderwalker”.
Teachers and students of Academia de Música São Pio X, Macao Polytechnic University’s (MPU) Faculty of Arts & Design and Macao Conservatory’s Faculty of Music were invited by Melco to attend the concert, the statement said.
A special performance and meet-up event were also held at Studio City in Cotai the following day, with the attendees including students and teachers of Academia de Música São Pio X, the statement said. A sharing session with Li and Macao Orchestra Assistant Conductor Tony Cheng-Te Yeh took place as well.
Melco Board Director Clarence Chung Yuk Man was quoted by the statement as saying: We look forward to further building upon Melco’s track record of bringing innovative, world-class events, performances and shows to Macau – to attract visitors from both within and outside the region as we contribute towards the city’s status as an international hub for performing arts.”
