The Health Bureau (SSM) announced in a statement last night that one more critical case of influenza was reported yesterday, a 65-year-old local man inflicted with chronic diseases.
According to last night’s statement, the 65-year-old man came down with a fever, runny nose and cough on Monday. The man sought treatment at the emergency department of the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre on Tuesday after suffering from shortness of breath, the statement said.
According to the statement, the man tested positive for the influenza A virus in his respiratory specimen. In addition, the statement said, a chest X-ray at the public hospital showed that he was suffering from pneumonia in his right lung, because of which he was sent to undergo treatment in its intensive care unit (ICU), and he was in a critical condition and on a ventilator, the statement said.
The statement said that the patient did not receive the latest seasonal influenza jab for this year, adding that his family members have not come down with any flu symptoms.
Meanwhile, last night’s statement also announced that four flu-like cluster cases were reported yesterday, involving a total of 24 children and one teacher, comprising school and kindergarten students as well as four seniors from an elderly home.
