Integrated resort (IR) operator SJM Resorts will host a football friendly between Portugal Icons, which is comprised of football stars from Portugal, and the GBA [Greater Bay Area] Flying Dragons, with the event slated for May 19 at the Macau East Asian Games Dome in Cotai
Details of the football event, which is entitled “SJM Five-a-side Football Friendly: Portugal Icons vs. GBA Flying Dragon” is going to be held in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Macau Special Administrative Region (SAR), were unveiled yesterday during a press conference at the Grand Lisboa Palace (GLP) in Cotai.
Portuguese footballers Luis Figo, Pauleta, Nuno Gomes, Dimas, Maniche, Bosingwa, Tiago, Helder Postiga and Ricardo Quaresma are among the players for the upcoming event.
Meanwhile, the GBA Flying Dragon’s team sheet will feature players from the GBA and the Hong Kong All Stars Sports Association including Eddie Ng (吳國敬), Frankie Lam (林文龍), Eddie Cheung (張兆輝), Danny Chan (陳國坤), Leslie George Santos, Wong Chin Hung, Chan Tat Sun, Geofredo Cheung (張哲源), Wu Qunli, Hu Zhijun, and Lu Lin. It also includes Natalis Chan Pak Cheung and Chan Chi Hong, who both attended yesterday’s press conference.
In her speech, SJM Managing Director Daisy Ho Chiu-fung said: “We will continue to leverage ‘Sport + Tourism’ to enrich the SAR’s tourism landscape and facilitate the diversified development of our tourism and leisure industry, to bolster our reputation as a ‘City of Sport,’ and to attract more overseas visitors to Macau.”
Sports Bureau (ID) President Pun Weng Kun said: “By building a cooperation platform through large-scale sporting events and collaborative sport exchange activities, the goal is to promote the development of the sporting industry, leverage the synergies of major sporting events, stimulate the growth of Macau’s sport industry, and drive economic development in sport tourism and related sectors.”
