A local man in his seventies banned from driving was arrested for drunk driving on Friday, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheong Heon Fan said at a regular press conference yesterday.
The suspect surnamed Lao told the police that he’s jobless.
According to Cheong, on Friday, a Public Security Police officer discovered that a man was reversing near Barrier Gate checkpoint. The officer intercepted him and discovered that he was reeking of alcohol. The driver, Lao, was given a breathalyser test which detected his alcohol concentration at 1.37 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood.
Upon checking the records, the officer discovered that Lao had been banned from driving for a previous drunk-driving offence.
Under questioning, Lao admitted to drinking alcohol earlier that day. He told the police that when driving, he suddenly remembered that he had forgotten his phone and thus immediately reversed his car, leading to his arrest.
Lao has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing charges of drunk driving and disobedience.
